NRM top leadership receives flowers for resounding polls victory

Saturday 7th February 2026

Senior leaders of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) on Saturday gathered in Busia District to celebrate the party’s resounding victory in the recently concluded general elections, with Speaker of Parliament Anita Among singling out Secretary General Richard Todwong for his role in delivering the landslide win.

Among, who also serves as the NRM Second National Vice Chairperson (Female), praised Todwong for his organisational skills and discipline, crediting him with steering the party to a decisive 71 percent presidential victory.

“Thank you for protecting the party from independents, grooming new party members and delivering a 71 percent victory for the President. We were all on the campaign team, but without your organisation, we would not have achieved such a result,” Among said.

She made the remarks at Buwanda Primary School playgrounds in Masafu Town Council, Busia District, while addressing a mammoth crowd of NRM supporters during a thanksgiving ceremony organised by the party’s National Treasurer, Hon. Amb. Barbara Nekesa Oundo, and district leaders.

Among also commended Nekesa for mobilising support and organising the thanksgiving event, emphasising that leaders have a responsibility to give back and promote development in the communities they represent.

“We are not going back to campaigning. We are going to continue fulfilling our pledges. When President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni contests again, he will score even higher results, just as he did in Bukedea,” Among said.

She further pledged to use her position as Speaker of Parliament and NRM Vice Chairperson to mentor and support newly elected legislators.

“When you come to Parliament, we shall support you, nurture you and ensure that Busia benefits. The same support will be extended to other newly elected legislators,” Among said.

Among noted that the celebrations in Busia were meant to honour President Museveni and the NRM for their massive victory in the 2026 general elections, revealing that the party secured 65 percent of the vote in the district.

“We are here today celebrating because the NRM won massively. In Busia, the party scored 65 percent,” she said.

Addressing the same gathering, NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong described the campaigns as vibrant and well-coordinated, applauding Among for standing firmly with the party chairman and presidential flag bearer, as well as all NRM candidates across the country.

“We wish you a safe and successful 12th Parliament, where you will continue to serve as Speaker,” Todwong said, adding that Busia set a strong example for other districts during the presidential campaigns.

National Treasurer Barbara Nekesa said it would have been unjust for the NRM leadership not to return and thank Ugandans for overwhelmingly voting President Museveni and party flag bearers.

“For many years, the NRM had not attained 71 percent in a presidential race. It would be unfair not to thank Ugandans who turned up in large numbers to vote for us,” Nekesa said.

She attributed the party’s strong performance to a structurally coordinated mobilisation strategy, noting that the 2026 campaign was more organised than previous ones.

Nekesa added that peace and security, development initiatives and poverty eradication programmes were among the key factors that motivated voters to overwhelmingly support the NRM.
