The NRM flag bearer, Janet Adongo Rose Elau, has been nominated today, Monday, 11th, by the Independent Electoral Commission to vie in the Dokolo district woman Member of Parliament by-election scheduled for the 21st of March.
This nomination followed the fulfilment of the electoral body's requirements, as stated by Mr. Ngobi Stephen Erikwaine, the Returning Officer for Dokolo district.
Mrs. Adongo was accompanied by the Director of Mobilisation at NRM, Hon. Rosemary Seninde, and the party leadership at the district.
Candidates are expected to campaign for 7 days, starting on Wednesday, March 13th, until March 19th.
Speaking at the Anwacibana Primary School grounds in Dokolo Town Council after her nomination, Adongo stated, “I intend to prioritise improving the health care of people here. I will also cooperate with fellow leaders to implement the NRM party promises in the NRM manifesto."
“In Dokolo district, we don’t have a general hospital, and that is what MPs have been following. I will add my voice to the same cause and constantly remind the government to elevate our one of our health centres into a general hospital,” Adongo said.
The Director of Mobilisation at the NRM Secretariat, Hon. Rosemary Seninde, congratulated all parties involved in the election on conducting peaceful campaigns, saying, "We hope to conduct smooth campaigns over the next 7 days. NRM supporters should engage in high-gear mobilisation to ensure that our candidate wins.
She discouraged the voters from electing the opposition or an independent candidate, saying, “You will miss out on a lot of services since resource allocations are determined in the NRM caucus meetings where opposition MPs don’t sit.”
"In God's name, we remain hopeful of winning this by-election, just as we have been successful in recent polls," emphasised the NRM chief mobilizer.
The NRM Electoral Commission Vice Chairman, Hon. Arimpa John Kigyagi, said the NRM leaders are united and "I believe with joint efforts, Mrs. Adongo will win."
He also assured locals that the party will dispatch teams to intensify vote mobilisation and protection on the voting day.
The nomination rally was also attended by Hon. Felix Okot Ogong, the Member of Parliament for Dokolo south constituency, and other district leaders.
Voting is slated for March 21, 2024.
