Todwong tells prison officers to serve with discipline

Friday 4th August 2023

The NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong has urged prison officers to maintain discipline and be exemplary during their service in a quest to promote order in society.

SG Todwong was today Friday making a presentation on ‘the government’s agenda for a modern, strong economy’ to over 2000 cadet prison officers who are undergoing training at the Prisons Academy and Training School in Luzira.

He said; “discipline of an officer is very key in building a good legacy. We are looking forward to a better society once you are commissioned into service.”

Rt.Hon. Todwong also urged the officers to have the ideology of serving the nation with passion to the best of their abilities.

“The nation is proud of you as its officers and so ensure that you perform to expectation of Ugandans. Learn to manage your emotions even when you encounter provocations.”

Todwong also cautioned the trainees against corruption, saying the tendency has contributed moral degeneration of many good public servants.

“Corruption and misuse of power has eroded good careers of some officers. When you come as an innocent officer and you are exposed to resources and opportunities of an institution, you may be tempted to misbehave. This a very serious concern that each of you need to avoid.” Mr. Todwong said.

He commended President Museveni and the NRM government for professionalizing the security organs saying that unlike in previous regimes where recruitments based on tribes, the current reign considers ones qualification and not his place of birth or the language they speak.

The NRM Secretariat head congratulated the trainees for enduring training and qualifying to join the loyal forces of the country. “Many Ugandans would wish to be like you. So don't take this service for granted.”
