Saturday 19th August 2023

MITYANA - Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja today kickstarted a far-reaching initiative aimed at mobilizing farmers across the nation to amplify agricultural output, enhance productivity, and ultimately boost profitability. The launch event unfolded at Kiryokya Primary School in Mityana district.

The agricultural exposition, inaugurated with great enthusiasm in Mityana, drew the attention of key players within the agricultural sector. Notable attendees included suppliers of agro-inputs and agricultural machinery, exemplary farmers, and specialists in agro-processing. These stakeholders showcased their latest technologies and products through well-organized exhibition stalls, underscoring a united effort to rejuvenate Uganda's agricultural landscape.

This initiative stands in harmony with the six-point policy proposals set forth by H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, all designed to invigorate the agricultural sector. The proposals encompass the entire spectrum from seed production, distribution, and certification, to disease control, agricultural mechanization and irrigation, farmer education and mobilization, partnerships with prominent landholders, and interventions within the fisheries sector.

In her address, the Prime Minister emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to translating the vision of socio-economic transformation into concrete action. She stressed the importance of tackling poverty at its roots, at the household level, through the successful implementation of these initiatives.

"Today marks a crucial step towards securing a brighter future for our nation's farmers and their families. We are steadfast in our resolve to realize a society where prosperity flourishes from our fields to our homes," Prime Minister Nabbanja proclaimed.

Rt. Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, Deputy Secretary General, echoed the ruling party's steadfast dedication to achieving socio-economic transformation through grassroots empowerment. She underscored the pivotal role of government programs in fostering financial empowerment among the population.

Expressing gratitude for the government's unwavering support, she highlighted the potential of the nationwide campaign to mobilize farmers with the shared goal of elevating agricultural production. Nsereko reiterated that focusing on agriculture is not only instrumental in bolstering household incomes but is also a potent weapon in the fight against poverty.

"With the government's collaboration with agricultural experts and exhibitors, as well as the expansive scope of this initiative across our nation, our duty as the ruling party is to inspire and engage everyone in the pursuit of agriculture. This is a resolute step towards alleviating poverty, especially at the grassroots level," she emphasized.

The countrywide agricultural exposition is poised to continue with upcoming launches in the districts of Kasanda and Mubende tomorrow, followed by Kiboga and Kyankwanzi. The inauguration event drew the presence of esteemed cabinet ministers, ministers of state, members of parliament, and district leaders, among other distinguished guests.
