NRM conducts training for officers ahead of voters register update

Tuesday 27th February 2024

The training of NRM officials in preparation for the party membership register update exercise, which will take place from March 13th to March 17th, 2024, has commenced today. The training has been declared open by the NRM 1st National Vice Chairman, Al Hajj Moses Kigongo, at the party Electoral Commission offices at plot 13, Kyadondo Road, Nakasero.

The officials who are receiving training include NRM district chairpersons, registrars, district administrators, and regional coordinators of the Office of the NRM National Chairman.

In his message, the Vice Chairman appealed to trainees to work together for the success of the one-week-long exercise. “Without proper unity, there is nothing we can achieve.”

Kigongo added, “After this, we are going to start approaching the people; the work we are going to do involves mobilization, which requires discipline. Don’t use abusive language; instead, try to persuade people by explaining to some members that they may be hesitant.”

He also cautioned the officials to desist from interfering in matters not related to their mandated roles. “The people of Uganda are waiting for you. I want everybody to keep their line. Don’t interfere in things that don’t concern you other than the mission taking you.”

The Party Deputy Secretary General, Rt.Hon. Namayanja Rose Nsereko, said the dispatched teams are required to commit even for longer hours to deliver a credible exercise.

According to Namayanja, the activity shall include ridding the register of deceased members, those who relocated to other areas, or those who joined other political parties, as well as welcoming those who are joining the NRM.

“I implore you to take this exercise very seriously. This is both our membership and voter registration. It requires due diligence to ensure that eligible members are not left out,” Namayanja said.

The Chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, Dr. Tanga Odoi, reiterated that the party register will be very important in delivering free and fair internal elections during the 2026 general elections.

“An updated register will save us from the chaos and bickering of party members during our primaries, which previously were witnessed in some isolated areas,” Dr. Tanga said.

The NRM National Chairman, H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, will officially launch the NRM Register update exercise tomorrow, Wednesday, February 28, 2024.
