PRESS RELEASE: FORTHCOMING NRM PRIMARIES FOR DISTRICT WOMAN REPRESENTATIVES TO PARLIAMENT & LOWER LOCAL GOV'T COUNCILS, KAABONG & HOIMA DISTRICTS 2019

Introduction

Following the creation of the new Districts of Karenga (carved out of Kaabong) and Kikuube (carved out of Hoima), the Woman Representatives to Parliament of the Mother Districts opted to represent the New Districts, leaving the Old Districts without representation.

 

As such, the National Electoral Commission has released a Programme for filling these Vacancies. In turn, the NRM EC hereby announces a Roadmap for the election of a Flag Bearer for Kaabong* (see footnote) for the above positions as follows;

Requirements for aspiring Candidates for Woman MP

For purposes of clarity, any person who wishes to contest for the above position must meet the following requirements:

 

  1. Must be a Ugandan Female
  2. Must be at least 18 years and above
  3. Must be a member of the NRM
  4. Must be a resident in the district
  5. Must have his/her ‘’O’’ and ‘’A’’ level certificates or their equivalent verified/certified by UNEB/UNCHE
  6. Must not be employed in an organization wholly owned by government
  7. Must not be a member of the armed forces such as the army, police and prisons
  8. Must be a registered voter by the National Electoral Commission
  9. Must not be a Cultural leader 

 

Lower local Government Council Positions

During the same electoral process, the commission shall also conduct Primaries for lower local government council positions including;

 

a)    LCIII Chairpersons/Town Council Mayors

b)    District directly- elected and Woman councilors

c)     Sub county directly-elected and Woman councilors

 

These positions are 75 (in Hoima) and 25 (in Kaabong). Expression of interest and picking of Nomination Forms for these positions is currently ongoing at our district offices in the two districts. No academic qualifications are required.

 

Joint Campaigns

Please take note that campaigns shall strictly be joint as provided for in the NRM Constitution. The Commission also wishes to warn all aspiring candidates and other interested parties to refrain engaging in any form of campaigns until the gazette time as laid out in the just announced NRM EC roadmap.
