Tuesday, February 7, 2017

President Yoweri Museveni has appealed to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) aspirants not to consider the forthcoming elections as an employment opportunity but as an opportunity to serve and participate in the integration of the East African Community.

“These elections are a serious matter. It is about electing people who know what is involved in integration.” The President said.

The President made the remarks today while addressing the NRM Parliamentary Caucus ahead of their election of party flagbearers for the EALA.

President Museveni urged the aspirants to get well conversant in the areas of justice, security and prosperity of East African people which he said will help make integration a reality.

“To ensure prosperity, you need a market. The 170 million people of East Africa represent a big market which will not only support prosperity of Ugandans but all East Africans,” Museveni said.

The NRM Caucus is convening today to elect EALA party candidates, 38 aspirants are in the race after 5 aspirants quit yesterday. NRM is to fill up six of the nine EALA slots for Uganda while the rest will be taken up by both the opposition and independents.
