Inspector General of Police Gen. Kale Kayihura assures the public on peace after Polls results

Sunday 20th February 2011

Gen. Kale Kayihura has urged those that disagree with the election results to use the court of law for redress, and the provisions within the constitution to seek justice where they may feel that it was denied.

He cautioned those who wish to celebrate to exercise caution because of some destabilising elements including terrorist threats which have been there from the beginning.

He thanked the general public and all parties who participated in the polls for having conducted themselves in an orderly and respectful manner in the process of the campaigns and the voting process. This made the work of the Police and other security agencies much more easier.

On the heavy presence of the army and police on the streets, he IGP explained that, it was necessary due to the various threats that exist, including error threats, but also to guard against any chaos that may result from those who lose and incite the public into violence.

Gen. Kayihura was addressing members of the press at Nambole shortly after the EC Chairman Dr. Badru Kiggundu announced that the NRM Presidential Candidate for the NRM Yoweri Kaguta Museveni had won the 2011 Presidential elections.
