Hon. Amama Mbabazi addresses the Press on NRM Win

Sunday 20th February 2011

The Secretary General of the NRM, Hon. Amama Mbabazi, has welcomed the election results released by the Electoral commission that saw the NRM candidate win with an absolute majority and many others who won seats in parliament.

He congratulated his Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on his win.

Hon. Mbabazi explained that the party did not in anyway bribe voters as some have been alleging. He said that those who are spreading these lies are out to discredit the party, and its leadership.

He says that those who have the evidence can take it to court because it is against the laws of Uganda. He also explained that every party that participates in such an election has to raise money, of which NRM did.

He confirmed earlier statements by the NRM EC Chairman Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda that all funds raised, and used during the campaigns will be accounted for and an audit statement submitted for public scrutiny.

The SG referred to the FDC Presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye as a bad loser, who after vigorously participating in the campaigns has now started sour grapping and behaving in a manner not befitting of those aspiring to leadership of a country.

He called his threats of inciting the public as an indication of a person who should not be considered for the office of President, and reaffirmed that the threat of violence by Dr. Besigye will not amount to much, because the government has the capacity to handle any potential unrest that would arise from such an incitement.
